to any effective action on an issue.
- Establish a prayer group or e-mail list and
begin praying for those in your area who are speaking up publicly on an issue.
- Pray for your MP by name.
- Pray for the EFC and other national groups
that are working on these critical issues.
2. Write

Effective Letters to the Government
Always be respectful and affirm any positive action the
government has taken
If you feel strongly about
an issue, you may tend to write a letter that is not "seasoned with salt." One
idea is to have someone else read your letter before you send it. Or, wait for 24 hours
before you send it.
Make sure you send it to the
right people involved with the issue
Send copies to your MP
Send copies to our
organization, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, or others who are defending Biblical
principles and moral concerns
A form
letter is also effective. Numbers are important on these issues. However, expressing
yourself in print and personally can be very helpful for those who receive them to
understand the extent of your concern. The process is also helpful to enable you to
understand and articulate your concerns. Below is a sample letter from which
you may compose your own. You could cut and paste it into your word processor and
personalize it. Print and send. Addresses are below.
Thank you for all your hard work representing our community in Parliament.
I am writing to tell you that the definition of marriage is very important to me. I
believe that marriage should be defined as being between a man and a woman. It is
important for our society that children have a mom and a dad and upholding the
time-honoured definition of marriage is one way to support this. The Supreme Court has not
ruled that marriage must be redefined. I urge you to vote against any bill that would
redefine marriage. Thank you for taking the time to consider my views.

Yes, letters do make a
difference!
MPs do a letter count on
these issues.
When each party has their
caucus and gather to determine their policies, the leader asks the MPs if they have
received letters on the different issues and they ask HOW MANY. They ask: what are your
constituents saying on this issue? How many have responded?
MPs who are supportive of
Biblical principles need our support and prayers. They need our concrete letters to show
them where we stand and what we believe.
MPs are elected to represent
their constituents. They need from you a clear and simple indication of where you stand on
an issue. Your communications should be always respectful to honour the Lord.
